The Problem Driver Pointer System (PDPS) allows jurisdictions and other organizations to search the National Driver Register (NDR) data. The NDR is a repository of information on problem drivers provided by all 51 U.S. jurisdictions. Based on information received as a result of an NDR search, PDPS "points" the inquiring jurisdiction to the state of record (SOR), where an individual's driver status and history information is stored. Based on the information received from the SOR, the issuing state decides if the applicant is eligible to receive a new or renewed driver license.
PDPS is developed and maintained by the National Driver Register organization, which is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation, National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).

System Notice
The National Driver Register conducts a Cleanfile each quarter. The current Cleanfile information is below. The next Cleanfile will be run on Sunday, September 15, 2024 and information will be updated when we receive it from NDR.
- To participate, email NDR by: Wednesday, September 4, 2024
- Send file to NDR by: Wednesday, September 11, 2024
Cleanfile is an optional process. It is a means for jurisdictions to refresh the pointers it has on PDPS. NDR replaces all pointers on the PDPS file with the Cleanfile set of pointers sent by the jurisdiction. For a pointer to be included in the Cleanfile, the associated record in the jurisdiction must contain a conviction or withdrawal specified in 23 CFR Part 1327 section 1327.5 (a) or in Appendix A to that rule.
To participate in the current Cleanfile, please email NDR and send in your file by the dates noted above.
Cleanfiles must be submitted via Secure FTP or FTP. Please schedule a test of SFTP/FTP connectivity with NDR before attempting to send the full Cleanfile.
If you plan to participate in this Cleanfile or if you have any questions please contact the NDR office by sending an e-mail to NDR_Operations@dot.gov.
