Chief Jeff Dixon is a Florida native who graduated from the University of West Florida in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1990, Jeff joined the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles with the Florida Highway Patrol to begin his career in state law enforcement as a trooper.
Since then, Jeff has proudly served thirty-four years for the State of Florida and the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), working his way up through the ranks as a state trooper in the beginning to his current role as a Bureau Chief. Throughout his career, Jeff has served in numerous leadership and management positions within the agency’s Bureau of Investigations, Office of Inspector General, Office of Professional Compliance, Patrol Operations, Office of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, and Office of Special Services.
In 2023, Colonel Gary L. Howze II appointed Jeff to serve as FHP’s Chief of Special Services, where he provides operational oversight for essential programs including the FHP Training Academy and Background Recruitment section, the Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Intelligence, the Traffic Homicide Investigation program, the Criminal Interdiction Unit and K-9 program, and the FHP Communications section, comprised of seven Regional Communications Centers. Jeff also represents the Florida Highway Patrol with external stakeholders on Florida’s Statewide Traffic Incident Management (TIM) working group, and Florida’s Infrastructure Protection working group.
Since 2019, Jeff has been an active participant in the AAMVA community, currently serving Region 2 Board as its First-Vice President. In June 2024 he will be appointed President of Region 2 and will host AAMVA’s 2025 Region 2 Conference in Tampa, Florida. Jeff also serves on AAMVA’s Automated Vehicles (AV) Subcommittee, working alongside administrators and enforcement personnel from across the United States and Canada on AV related matters, as a member of the Law Enforcement Subgroup.
