Major Jonathan R. Herrick was born in Albany, New York, and was raised in the Capital Region where he currently resides with his family.
Major Herrick has been a sworn member of the New York State Police since 2004, starting his career as a Trooper, and working through multiple ranks until eventually being appointed to his current rank of Major. In August of 2023, he was appointed the Director of the New York State Police Traffic Services section. Prior to his appointment he also served as Captain and Lieutenant of the section.
Major Herrick’s primary role is to support all traffic-related functions of the 11 statewide troops in accordance with the Division of State Police mission to improve highway safety. This is done with significant partnerships of the Department of Motor Vehicles Governors Traffic Safety Committee and Department of Transportation.
Prior to joining the New York State Police, he was employed in the automotive industry and received his bachelor’s degree from the State University at Albany, New York in Communications and Business.
