AAMVA supports a Graduated Driver Licensing System (GDLS) to ease beginning drivers into the traffic environment under controlled exposure to progressively more difficult driving experiences. The GDLS should be designed to help novice drivers of all ages improve their driving skills and acquire on-the-road experience by progressing through driver licensing stages before unrestricted licensure.
