AAMVA supports passage of adult and child seat belt/safety restraint systems usage legislation requiring restraints function and be worn properly by all vehicle occupants for whom restraints are provided. AAMVA further supports these laws being in the form of a primary violation allowing law enforcement intervention even when that is the only violation observed. Surveys indicate nighttime belt usage is lower than daytime usage. Therefore, jurisdictions are encouraged to conduct sustained, equitable occupant protection enforcement efforts, with emphasis on nighttime enforcement campaigns.
