The National Driver Registry (NDR) Subcommittee met in Buffalo, New York last week. The group is comprised of jurisdictional experts, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) representatives, and AAMVA staff. Topics discussed included the importance of maintaining accurate NDR pointers, AAMVA Code Dictionary (ACD) codes, and how they should be reported. NHTSA developed the Problem Driver Pointer System (PDPS) to provide a centralized repository of information on individuals whose privilege to operate a motor vehicle has been revoked, suspended, canceled, denied, or who have been convicted of serious traffic-related offenses. Identifying problem drivers prior to licensing supports NHTSA’s mission to ensure the safety of the general driving public.
