The Automated Vehicles Subcommittee conducted an in-person meeting last week in Columbus, Ohio. The first day was a visit to the Transportation Research Center in East Liberty, Ohio where they learned about vehicle research and testing with the latest in vehicle technology. While on site, they spent time at the NHTSA Vehicle Research & Testing Center where they observed testing for vehicle crash avoidance, crashworthiness, and defects analysis, along with participating in discussions with engineers about testing on automated vehicles and advanced driver assistance systems. On day two, the subcommittee held a meeting with stakeholders regarding the impact of AV deployment on the labor industry and time was spent reviewing updates on the Guidelines for Regulating Vehicles with Automated Driving Systems, Edition 4. Members of the Ohio State Highway Patrol welcomed members and provided an update on their work with vehicle automation.
