Driver Testing & Examiner Training Subcommittee (DTET)

The Driver Testing & Examiner Training Subcommittee (DTET) is a subcommittee of the AAMVA Driver Committee. DTET is responsible for the development and maintenance of all AAMVA model licensing systems, both commercial and non-commercial. The components of these test systems include model driver manuals, model knowledge tests and model skills tests.

The DTET subcommittee replaces the Test Maintenance Subcommittee and the International Driver Examiner Certification (IDEC) board. DTET will promote roadway safety and protect the public interest by creating and promoting test models that effectively determine fitness to operate safely and by creating training and certification programs for examiners that align with safety goals. By achieving uniformity and quality in testing and training programs, results will be validated and drivers better prepared to operate safely.

DTET is also the governing body of the International Driver Examiner Certification (IDEC) Program. As such, the subcommittee shall direct and supervise the affairs and publications of the examiner training program, promote its objectives, accredit jurisdictions, and certify the individual jurisdictional examiners. The subcommittee shall serve as the governing body for the administration and resolution of all matters relating to the operation of the International Driver Examiner Certification Program.

DTET supports the IDEC Examiner of the Year Award. Annually, all active participating jurisdictions are asked to recognize one outstanding driver examiner/tester from their jurisdiction by nominating them for the IDEC Examiner of the Year award. Examiner nominations are based on the exemplary professionalism the examiner/tester brings to their job. After all nominations are submitted, DTET selects one examiner for the Outstanding Examiner of the Year award.
